USGS Office/Lab and Location: A research opportunity is currently available with the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Interns may be asked to report in-person or remotely depending on the type of research.
The USGS mission is to monitor, analyze, and predict current and evolving dynamics of complex human and natural Earth-system interactions and to deliver actionable intelligence at scales and timeframes relevant to decision makers. As the Nation's largest water, earth, and biological science and civilian mapping agency, USGS collects, monitors, analyzes, and provides science about natural resource conditions, issues, and problems.
Research Project: The Bromery Internship Program provides paid opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, and recent graduates to:
- Be part of world-class research and operations opportunities within the United States Geological Survey.
- Enhance their preparedness for scientific, technological and administrative careers.
- Establish connections with United States Geological Survey community of scientists and subject matter experts, promoting long-term relationships between yourself, researchers, and other professionals in their fields.
Learning Objectives:
- Exposure to a variety of tasks: Interns often are involved in a range of learning experiences, from administrative support to field research to research projects. This will give interns a broad understanding of the USGS operations and personnel roles.
- Mentorship and guidance: You will be paired with a mentor who will guide you through your research and help you learn about the agency. Take advantage of this opportunity to ask questions and seek feedback.
- Networking: Interning with the USGS can provide you with opportunities to meet and connect with people in your field of interest and learn about their experiences and career paths.
- Professional development: Through the internship experience program, we’re offering top-notch opportunities for training and development. Take advantage of these and any training programs offered to help you build new skills and knowledge.
- Exposure to public service: You will gain wide exposure to different occupations and career paths and a sense of the impact your research can have on the public.
If you have questions about the nature of the internship, please contact Ernestine Coleman at ecoleman1@usgs.gov.
Anticipated Appointment Start Date: May 2025. Start date is flexible and will depend on the intern's availability.
