CDC Office and Location: A research opportunity is currently available in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion (DHQP) within the National Center for Zoonotic and Emerging Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the major operation components of the Department of Health and Human Services. CDC works to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same.
Research Project: In order to learn the evidence-based decision-making process, the selected fellow will participate in the CDC evidence review, critical appraisal, and guideline development process from start to finish.
Topics of research may include:
- Infection prevention and control in healthcare settings
- Occupational exposures to HIV
- Infectious disease prevention
- Evidence-based research methods
- Evidence assessment in rapid response
- Underlying medical conditions and severe COVID-19 outcomes
Methodologic skills learned may include:
- Collaborating with informaticians to develop optimal strategies for data retrieval
- Abstracting and analyzing relevant data
- Participating in the critical appraisal of peer-reviewed and technical literature
- Collaborating with subject matter experts and methodologists to synthesize data
- Learning how to implement evidence-to-decision making frameworks
- Drafting summaries of evidence
The qualified candidate should have received a master's degree in one of the relevant fields, or be currently pursuing the degree with completion before May 19, 2023. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.
