The Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services (CSELS) in the Division of Laboratory System (DLS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia has an opportunity for an outstanding individual to assist with a cutting edge program that will help shape the future in biorespository science and cryobiology at the CDC and ASTDR Specimen Packaging, Inventory, and Repository (CASPIR) located in Lawrenceville.
The participant will assist management in the development and implementation of a Communication System. In addition, the participant will assist in the evaluation of the CASPIR Operations and provide support for improving the Quality Management System (QMS) improve services and obtain facility accreditation. Opportunities may include:
- Identifying gaps in current QMS through process mapping and internal auditing with the Quality Manager.
- Assisting staff in the SOPs, implementation of procedures, and monitoring communication system.
- Providing feedback to the program on current documentation and quality practices.
- Training with the CASPIR DLS team, learning how to generate new documents, including Standard Operating Procedures, Forms, Guidelines, and additional supporting documentation to strengthen the current library of documentation already in place for biorepository operations.
- Collaberating with the CASPIR Operations Manager, Collections Managers and Science Advisor on all aspects of quality management.
- Researching accreditation programs and presenting findings and recommendation to the CASPIR team to achieve accreditation.
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in public health, health education, or a science related field received within the last five years.
- Knowledge of quality management systems, preferably development and implementation.
- Experience in laboratory systems related to biorepository science.
- Knowledge of ISO and accreditation processes.
- Degree: Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree received within the last 60 month(s).
