One coatings/corrosion research opportunity is available with the U.S. Army Research Lab. Qualified candidates would have a B.S. degree and a familiarity with coatings, corrosion, and/or surface finishing. Environmental science experience and familiarity with government research projects would be a plus. The candidate must possess knowledge of substrate materials commonly used on DoD platforms, their physical properties and susceptibility to corrosion; knowledge and experience with substrate pretreatments, including processing, corrosion performance, and adhesion; general knowledge of coating primers, including primer function, properties and corrosion and adhesion performance. The candidate should have a general knowledge of, and/or willingness to learn electrochemical characterization methods; and capable of conducting various laboratory tests. The candidate should also possess a familiarity with materials failures, such as corrosion fatigue and stress corrosion cracking. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to report progress results verbally and in writing. The position in general, involves understanding of corrosion and coatings to reduce Army and DOD corrosion problems, technical reporting of findings, and interacting with other Army/DOD organizations.
U.S. Citizenship is REQUIRED.
