DHS HS-STEM Summer Internship Program
A complete application consists of:
- All required fields in both the profile and application form, including essays on research and career goals
- Selection of up to five projects from the DHS HS-STEM project catalog at http://public.orau.org/SAWD/DHS-Ed/
- Transcripts showing the equivalent of at least one year of full-time postsecondary school attendance prior to Fall 2016. Transcripts must include the name of the academic institution, name of the student, completed coursework, and grades. For this opportunity, unofficial transcripts or copies of the student academic records printed by the applicant or by academic advisors from internal institutional systems may be submitted. Selected candidates must provide copies of official transcripts before the appointment can start.
- Proof of full-time enrollment and courses taken during the Fall 2016 term. If this information is missing from your transcript, then you must provide separate documentation.
- Minimum of two references received by the deadline for references to complete online recommendations (see Key Dates)

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate Office of University Programs sponsors a 10-week summer internship program for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in homeland security related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (HS-STEM) disciplines. The program provides students with quality research experiences at federal research facilities located across the country and allows students the opportunity to establish connections with DHS professionals. It is open to students in a broad spectrum of HS-STEM Disciplines and DHS mission-relevant Research Areas.
Undergraduate students receive a $6,000 stipend plus travel expenses.
Graduate students receive a $7,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

- United States (U.S.) citizenship as of the application deadline
- At least 18 years of age by May 1, 2017
- Cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher on a 4.00 scale as of Spring/Summer 2016
- Pursuing long-term career goals aligned with the DHS mission and objectives
- Full-time enrollment as a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student
