Description

A postgraduate research training opportunity is available at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Water (OW). This appointment will be served with the Office of Wastewater Management (OWM) in Washington, DC.

The participant will engage in activities that strengthen and enhance the partnership between Howard University and EPA. He/she will be involved in the Stormwater Program outreach activities with special emphasis on urban storm water.

The participant may be involved in a range of education activities relating to the EPA’s efforts to enhance environmental education cooperation. This effort may include organizing and participating in quarterly meetings with senior EPA and university leadership as well as other associated groups. The participant may also be engaged in efforts and projects associated with industrial water treatment controls.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and EPA.

Qualifications

Applicant must have received a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, economics, chemistry or a closely related discipline within five years of the desired starting date. 

The appointment is full time for one year and may be renewed upon recommendation of EPA and contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend. The annual stipend will range from $45,000 to $60,000. Funding, up to $2,000, may be made available to reimburse the participant’s travel expenses to present the results of his/her research at scientific conferences. No funding will be made available to cover travel costs for pre-appointment visits, relocation costs, tuition and fees, or participant’s health insurance. The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance. The participant does not become an EPA employee.
