Quantitative Ecologist - Post Bachelor's Associate
We will consider candidates at the post bachelor's level. Coursework in computer science and/or experience with C++ or related language is desirable. Coursework in other quantitative areas (math, statistics), population genetics, and environmental sciences also helpful.
We are seeking a post-bachelor researcher to support quantitative energy-related environmental research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). We are seeking candidates with strong quantitative skills and self-teaching abilities. Experience with a subset of the following: programming in C++ and R, statistics, and optimization. In addition, aptitude for scholarship, written and oral communication, will be considered and opportunities to publish will be available.
Our research seeks to understand how hydropower and bioenergy influence fish and wildlife, respectively:
• Hydropower: Integration of existing fish population models (salmon, sturgeon), running and summarizing simulation results
• Bioenergy: Develop National-scale spatial optimization models to examine trade-offs and complementarities between bioenergy production and wildlife biodiversity. See project descriptions at www.esd.ornl.gov/~zij/
Located near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Big South Fork, ORNL has significant scientific, cultural and natural assets. ORNL is located near the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis at the University of Tennessee, located near thriving downtown Knoxville.

Experience with academic activities such as conducting literature reviews and scientific writing
