Description

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest U.S. Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy, environment, and security.

The candidate will support projects in the Unmanned Vehicle Development Laboratory (UVDL) and in particular, projects associated with unmanned aerial vehicles and imagery collection from those vehicles. Projects in UVDL develop remote autonomous ground and air systems to enhance national security, support nonproliferation, and serve other unique support needs within the U.S. government. The projects span a breadth of activities from sensor development, software, communication systems, electronics, aviation systems, and mechanical engineering. The candidate will work closely with senior research staff on these exciting projects.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a master's degree in geography, mathematics, engineering, or related fields.

Preferred Skills:

  • Basic familiarity with imagery.

  • Basic familiarity with programming. Languages of interest include (but not limited to): C/C++, Python, Java, Matlab.

  • Familiarity with software development.

  • Familiarity with hardware design and implementation.

The ORNL Post-Master’s Research Associate Program is administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE).
