ORNL Cloud Computing Post-Master's Research Associate
The Computer Science and Mathematics Division, in conjunction with the Extreme Scale Systems Center is seeking a recent Master's graduate to work on cloud computing for diverse scientific workloads. The project is focused
on ways to create user customizable computing environments for high-performance computing (HPC) using emerging technologies from cloud computing. This research leverages isolation mechanisms at the compute, network and storage system layers to create secure and high-performance computing enclaves.
The selected candidate will have a strong background in system software and system configuration management. The candidate will be expected to work in a team and contribute to the design and implementation of research prototypes related to cloud computing. The candidate will play an important role in integrating and extending cloud technologies, which will require familiarity with several configuration/testing tools and system management infrastructure.
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
A successful candidate should have a strong background in Linux and cloud computing technologies, specifically Linux containers and virtualization (e.g., Docker, LXC/LXD, KVM). Additionally, the candidate will have familiarity with system and configuration management tools used to setup and deploy cloud based computing environments (e.g., OpenStack, Kolla, Puppet, Ansible).
