The Oak Ridge Institute of Science and Education (ORISE) Research Participation Program is seeking applicants for research and training opportunities at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center. With the support of an assigned mentor, participants will have a hands-on learning/training opportunity that compliments their educational background.
What will I be doing?
Individuals participating in the program will acquire expertise in the fundamentals, methodologies, contemporary research advancements, and compliance standards associated with analytical chemistry. Under the guidance of a mentor, they will gain proficiency in formulating and validating novel analytical assays, ensuring their reproducibility, and aligning them with regulatory requirements. Participants will also develop problem-solving skills to address challenges encountered in both assay procedures and mass spectrometry instrumentation. Additionally, they will enhance their abilities in the analysis, organization, and documentation of experimental data suitable for publication and as a resource for others. Moreover, they will contribute to the replication of experiments detailed in scientific literature.
Why should I apply?
The project will provide opportunities to gain extensive knowledge of the full range of laboratory procedures, such as calibrating, and operating sophisticated laboratory instruments, knowledge of computer systems, and methods and procedures for safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials. Further skills in communication, evaluating and interpreting the significance of data, as well as statistical methods and procedures will also be developed.
Benefits
As a participant you will receive a competitive stipend. You may also be eligible to receive a health insurance allowance and/or reimbursement for professional travel expenses.
