Description

Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton conducts research on environmental health effects and aerospace medicine, addressing health and performance challenges faced by service members in operational military environments.

What will I be doing?

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will engage with the NAMRL vestibular physiology research team in research that includes vestibular and balance function, effects of virtual reality in motion environments, and effects of motion on sleep. This opportunity will enable you to gain significant insight into military research priorities relative to vestibular physiology and function and the use of specialized vestibular physiology research devices, including 6 degree of freedom motion bases, force plates, and virtual reality devices. You will enhance your skills using MATLAB to apply dynamic system modeling to balance, and the chance to gain experience performing human subject research experiments involving military relevant applications. In collaboration with the senior vestibular scientist, you will participate in drafting proposals for research funding with an emphasis on applied and/or clinical applications. Additionally, you will learn about multidisciplinary, multi-university programs for vestibular/balance research and gain understanding related to the operational needs of the joint fleet, all while supporting research in areas that are practicable and pertinent to the United States Navy.

Why should I apply?

This internship provides the opportunity to independently utilize your skills and engage with experts in innovative ideas to move the proposed
research forward. There are multiple opportunities available to engage in your applied research and evaluation interests.

Where will I be located? Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH
