The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) aims to conduct biomedical research that is responsive to Department of Defense and U.S. Army requirements and delivers lifesaving products including knowledge, technology and medical material that sustain the combat effectiveness of the warfighter. WRAIR carries out research to develop infectious disease countermeasures and to benefit brain health through studies to enhance our understanding of sleep, traumatic brain injury prevention/treatment and psychological resilience.
WRAIR is an international leader in the field of science and technology. The institute is focused on finding sustainable solutions to enhance Military healthcare readiness. This particular project will be in the systems biology branch that undertakes the integrative biology approaches to mitigate the Military relevant health risks. The systems biology group has a decade long experience in using multi-omics data to find biomarkers to facilitate the precision personalized medication. As an ORISE participant, you will develop critical thinking and laboratory research skills by conducting research in a WRAIR laboratory and will receive further professional and career development. This learning experience will provide an opportunity to collaborate with our scientists, present research to peers, and gain visibility in the scientific community. As a WRAIR participant, your mentor will help guide you as you find your place in the next generation of Military healthcare.

Appointment Length
This appointment is a three month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Undergraduate or graduate degree students in a biological field, with strong analytical, research and communication (oral and written) skills that can demonstrate a capacity for creative thinking. Knowledge of molecular biology techniques (PCR, lab animal handling, ELISA and aseptic techniques) is also highly preferred.
