The U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) is the primary Department of Defense technical organization for non-medical chemical and biological defense and is a subordinate command of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command. ECBC possesses an unrivaled chemical biological research and development infrastructure with scientists, engineers, technicians and specialists located at four different sites in the United States: Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., Pine Bluff, Ark., Rock Island, Ill., and Dugway Proving Ground, Utah.
One research opportunity is available with the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center, located in Edgewood, MD. This opportunity includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Participant will conduct synthetic biology research using representative tasks to include PCR, gel electrophoresis, cell free protein synthesis, and molecular cloning.
- Participant will assist senior researchers in a biosafety level 2 laboratory; set up, adjust, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory and field equipment; order, maintain and prepare supplies and research areas.
Appointment Length
This is a twelve month opportunity with the option to be renewed for additional research terms.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by ECBC. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
U.S. citizenship is required
Participant must have recently completed a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry.

- Degree: Bachelor's Degree received within the last 60 months or currently pursuing.
- Minimum Overall GPA: 2.50
