  1. Current Curriculum Vitae (CV) List all papers, presentations, or publications you may have authored or co-authored. Include any reprints or abstracts if they are available.
  2. Two Letters of Recommendation submitted through Zintellect
  3. Research Information Paper 2-4 pages describing your research capabilities and how they, combined with your research interests, can impact the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) research mission.  Refer to Application Requirements for guidance on content and formatting. Papers should be tailored to a specific Research Topic listed for 2025.

Description
The Department of Defense (DOD) Office of the Under Secretary for Research & Engineering (USRE) is now accepting applications for their HBCU-MI Summer Faculty Research Fellowship.  This program aims to strengthen the collaboration between the U.S. Department of Defense and STEM faculty affiliated with Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) and Minority Serving Institutions (MI). Selected Faculty Fellows will participate in research relevant to the missions of DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory (ARL), DEVCOM Chemical and Biological Center (CBC), the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), or the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD). Other DoD laboratories may be accessible as research interests from the candidates are evaluated.  More information on each laboratory can be found at www.orau.org/usre.  
 
Participation requires a commitment of ten consecutive weeks between May 1st and August 31st.
 
Selected Summer Faculty Research Fellows will receive a total stipend of $25,000 to participate in 10-weeks of research plus an allowance of $3,000 for research materials, supplies, or travel expenses.
Qualifications

To be eligible for this opportunity applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States.  Dual citizens and foreign nationals are not eligible to participate in this program.
  • Be a current HBCU/MI STEM Faculty member.
  • NOT have collaborated with a DoD Lab within the past five years.
