This motto represents the Omni Technology Alliance Internship Program which seeks to provide opportunities for students to participate in programs, projects, and activities designed to secure the Nation's energy, scientific, and nuclear technologies from malicious attackers.

As a program participant, you will:

  • Have the opportunity for PAID progressive and rotational internship assignments for three consecutive summers while pursuing a degree.
  • Be part of world-class research and operations opportunities across the DOE complex.
  • Explore a federal career with DOE and gain a competitive edge as you apply your education, talent, and skills in a variety of settings.
  • Have the potential to obtain a security clearance and postgraduate employment.
  • Attend the second annual Omni Fire event at the DOE Cyber Conference in Dallas, TX

Benefits

  • Stipend: Range starts at $750 per week for undergraduates and $1,000 per week for graduate students and recent graduates (paid biweekly).
  • Housing Allowance: Will be based on the location from which you are participating (minimum $240 per week).
  • Travel: Travel reimbursement will be provided for inbound and outbound expenses up to $1,000 for participants who relocate more than fifty miles, one-way, from the assigned hosting site. 
  • Virtual Appointments: Appointments may be hosted virtually at the discretion and approval of the host site or facility. On-station travel to the host site may be provided during the appointment period.

Duration

The Omni Technology Alliance Internship Program is a cohort-based program and will begin on June 3, 2024, and end on August 9, 2024. Summer interns will be expected to commit to full-time participation based on 40 hours per week, including a week-long event and conference in Dallas, TX, in July 2024 (additional details will be forthcoming and travel/lodging will be included). Exceptions to the proposed period of participation may be considered on a case-by-case basis to accommodate the candidate’s academic schedule. Time off is otherwise not permitted.


Location

Available opportunities may at DOE national laboratories, Power Marketing Administrations (PMAs), plants, DOE Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and other approved sites across the United States.  Available appointments at hosting facilities will be determined by DOE.

Qualifications

The DOE Omni Technology Alliance Program is open to all students and recent graduates who meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a U.S. citizen. Selected candidates must provide suitable documentation to verify citizenship as requested.
  • Be at least 18 years old by June 3, 2024.
  • Meet at least one of the following academic statuses:
    • Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at a U.S. accredited institute of higher education or an institution approved by DOE and be pursuing a degree in cybersecurity, information technology (IT), engineering or other IT-related field. 
    • Be a recent graduate with an associate's or bachelor's degree, have completed a combined BS/MS program, or have completed a graduate degree program from a U.S. accredited institute of higher education or an institution approved by DOE in cybersecurity, information technology (IT), engineering or other IT-related field. The time period between receipt of an undergraduate or graduate degree program and starting the Omni Program must be two years or less. 
  • Provide proof of academic status at the time of application such as an official transcript.
    • Selected candidates who complete a degree between the time of application and May 31, 2024, will be required to provide confirmation of degree completion during the onboarding process.
    • Selected candidates who are enrolled students during the Spring 2024 semester will be required to provide proof of enrollment for the Spring 2024 term.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0
  • Be available to participate full-time (40 hours per week) in a 10-week appointment beginning June 3, 2024.
  • Be available to attend the Omni Fire event at the DOE Cyber Conference in Dallas, TX as part of the appointment period (July 29 - August 2, 2023)

  • Current resume (PDF)
  • Transcripts/Academic Records - Unofficial transcripts or copies of the student academic records printed by the applicant or by academic advisors from internal institutional systems may be submitted. Transcripts/Academic Records must include name of the academic institution, name of the student, completed/in progress coursework, academic term in progress, and grades. Documents must have all social security numbers, student identification numbers, and/or dates of birth removed (blanked out, blackened out, made illegible, etc.) prior to uploading into the application system.
  • Recommendation - Applicants must provide contact information for recommenders, including current email addresses, who will be asked to complete a recommendation in Zintellect. Recommendation letters should address the applicant’s academic record and potential for success in a STEM internship, as indicated by demonstrated by intellectual merit, research/technical, communication, and teamwork skills.  Recommenders cannot be a family member. Recommendations submitted via email will not be accepted.
