Description

The Cyberspace Warfare for Training (CyWar-T) program, Advanced Modeling and Simulation Team, Training and Simulation Division, Soldier Effectiveness Directorate, DEVCOM Soldier Center is in search of a Computer Science, Human Computer Interaction Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Information Environment Simulation for Training (INFEST) research effort in conjunction with the Army Cyber Institute, United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. CyWar-T focuses on providing "Cyber-for- Others" training solutions via Modeling & Simulation where the users are described as individuals who are not classically trained in Cyber but need to interact with Cyberspace M&S, for example a military commander.

What will I be doing?

As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to discover, measure, and assess the capabilities of both existing and new/novel Modeling and Simulation (M&S) systems that are used in Cyberspace Training, from the perspective of data capturing, organizing, and presenting information to the user. For the purposes of this research, Cyberspace is defined from the broadest perspective possible to include, but not limited to: Intelligence, Information, Cyber, Electronic Warfare, and Space (I2CEWS). With the availability of technology solutions continuing to grow, development and assessment is needed to be able to support soldier-centered design. Specific thrust areas include Information Processing, Experimental Data Collection Systems, Cognition, Measurement, and User Experience.

This opportunity is a deep dive into the Information Environment (IE) to include characteristics like layers of information, information complexity and applicability to the Army's Operational Environment (OE). This will include the identification and familiarization of tools presently available across the force, tools current in the Army Science & Technology portfolio as well as those available via commercial or international partners. The results of this effort aim to provide guidance and recommendations to DoD capability developers on appropriate Human Factors methods, data types, and information flows to support Measures of Effectiveness (MOEs) and Measures of Performance (MOPs) in IE Modeling and Simulation. Products from this effort can include, but are not limited to: technical reports to Army S&T stakeholders, conference presentations and proceedings, technical information diagrams, and journal publications.

This fellowship provides a collaborative opportunity between DEVCOM Solider Center and the Army Cyber Institute which enables access to subject matter experts (both military and civilian) in support of this mission. This research takes place at the Army Cyber Institute (West Point, NY) and fosters an environment of innovation, critical thinking, and real-world application of Human Factors theory to Army challenges.

Where will I be located?

West Point, New York
