The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Data & Analysis Center (DAC) is offering a summer internship at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland.

What will I be doing?

This opportunity will provide you the opportunity to  experience and learn how the military works, specifically the types of problems solved using operations research methods. As the selected candidate, you will perform mathematical or engineering analyses to represent, estimate, assess and evaluate Army systems performance and vulnerability, analyze and improve reliability of Army systems, and analyze the impact to logistics, resources and costs.

What is the appointment length?

The tentative date start for this appointment is May, 2022.  This date is flexible and is dependent upon the selection of a candidate and start date deemed feasible between the candidate and the mentor. This appointment is a summer research appointment (10-12 weeks). Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

You will receive a stipend to be determined by DEVCOM-DAC. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location.

DEVCOM-DAC is one of eight science and technology domains within the command, and has the mission to deliver objective analysis, experimentation and data across the entire life cycle to ensure readiness today and a more lethal future force tomorrow.

DEVCOM-DAC is an Army Futures Command organization that conducts a variety of critical analyses to provide state-of-the-art analytical solutions to senior level Army and Department of Defense officials. About ORISE

This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.  Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Qualifications

The qualified candidate will be working to complete a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral Degree in mathematics, engineering, statistics, physics, chemistry, computer science, or similar disciplines, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date. Microsoft applications, and experience with one or more computer programming languages (C#, VBA, C++, R, Python, etc.) and/or MATLAB is desired.
