CDC Office and Location: A fellowship opportunity is available in the Office of Communications Policy, Planning, and Partnerships (OCPPP) within the Division of STD Prevention (DSTDP), of the National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia. This Fellowship will be 100% virtual.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the major operation components of the Department of Health and Human Services. CDC works to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same.

Research Project: This fellow will be trained on the key roles in supporting the Partnerships, Policy, and Planning unit in the development and maintenance of initiatives to advance the mission of DSTDP.

The primary purpose of this fellowship is to learn about public health partnerships, policy, planning, and evaluation. The fellow will primarily learn how DSTDP’s policy-driven projects are identified and implemented through strong external partnerships. The fellow will gain insight into how DSTDP collaborates with key partners to create tools, implement, evaluate, and disseminate promising policies, models, and best practices to help strengthen health department infrastructure and systems. The fellow will gain valuable insight on partnership engagement, expanding collaborations (both public and private), and fostering a culture of cooperation as they relate to the organization and STI prevention and control across the U.S. The person in this role will learn how to design projects and collaborate with partners to advance DSTDP’s strategic priorities through identifying, implementing, monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating complex and highly visible actions, policies, and models related to STI prevention and advancing sexual health.

Learning ObjectivesSpecific activities include:

  • Learn how to collaborate with partners to identify, implement, monitor, analyze, and evaluate complex and highly visible actions, policies, and models related to STI prevention and advancing sexual health;
  • Learn how to design, implement, and assess demonstration projects across local health departments and EHE jurisdictions;

  • Learn how to develop, promote, and disseminate tool, materials, and resources for decision makers;
  • Learn how to develop scientific programmatic abstracts and create a variety of organization-wide reports and materials for internal and external use; and
