An opportunity is currently available with the Prevention Research Branch within the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Prevention Research Branch (PRB) comprises scientists from a variety of disciplines including behavioral sciences, preventive medicine, public health, and library science. These experts conduct/oversee behavioral and operational public health research and demonstration projects to develop, test, and synthesize sustainable interventions to prevent HIV transmission. In addition, there is a lot of collaboration in PrIDE, Conéctate and Telemedicine demonstration projects, and in the center's Health Equity Working Group (HEWG). Throughout the course of this project, the participant will be part of larger M&E and Project Officers groups constituted for these projects. These are multidisciplinary groups that provide the opportunity to interact and collaborate with behavioral scientists, epidemiologists, public health advisors, grantees, and colleagues from other divisions.
Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) activities are being conducted in three non-research demonstration projects at different levels of implementation: (1) Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) among racial/ethnic and sexual minorities (10 health departments; dissemination phase), (2) Telemedicine for people living with HIV (one site; concluding implementation), and (3) Molecular surveillance among Hispanic/Latino MSM (4 health departments; concluding implementation). At the time of the appointment, evaluation reporting and dissemination will be the main emphasis, including translation and manuscript preparation.
Under the guidance of a mentor, participant activities may include:
- Joining biweekly and monthly meetings pertaining to the three main demonstration projects to contribute to the discussions and collaborate in the development/implementation of literature reviews, manuscript writing, and other dissemination and translation activities.
- Performing analysis summarizing results, and presenting findings at meetings or conferences.
- Participating at the monthly branch Science Meeting where branch members give presentations to generate discussion and become familiar with ongoing research studies and non-research projects, emerging/new topics, and ideas for proposals. The participant will be expected to attend the meetings and also give one presentation in the year.
