CDC Office and Location: A fellowship opportunity is available with the Immunodiagnostics and Proteomics Team within the Division of High Consequence Pathogens and Pathology (DHPP)/Poxvirus and Rabies Branch (PRB) of the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the major operation components of the Department of Health and Human Services. CDC works to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same.
Research Project: The selected participant will be trained to support rabies diagnostic activities within the PRB. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will be involved in the following activities:
- Provide support for rabies diagnostic activities through animal and human specimen management using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Other potential responsibilities could include assisting in rabies diagnostic testing, tissue culture studies, and testing of new diagnostic assays.
The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a bachelor’s or master's degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within the past five years.
Preferred Skills:
- Basic laboratory background with cell culture experience
- Good problem-solving skills, high motivation, attention to detail, and ability to follow supervisor's instructions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in basic computer applications purification
- Familiarity with basic computer programs such as Excel and Power Point
- Citizenship: LPR or U.S. Citizen
- Degree: Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree received within the last 60 months or currently pursuing.
