CDC Office and Location: A research opportunity is currently available with the Alzheimer’s Disease Team in the Healthy Aging Branch (HAB), Division of Population Health (DPH), within the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Alzheimer’s Disease Team (cdc.gov/aging) conducts activities authorized under Congressionally-mandated Healthy Brain Initiative and Building our Largest Dementia (BOLD) Infrastructure Act related to Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias.
Research Project: The Alzheimer’s Disease Team is seeking an ORISE Fellow to assist with public health efforts related to older adults, including but not limited to Alzheimer’s Disease, the epidemiology of chronic conditions, relevant policies, health surveillance, and communication products. Through this fellowship, participants will train under the guidance of a mentor on scientific, programmatic, and communication activities related to a public health approach for Alzheimer’s Disease.
Learning Objectives: Specifically, the Fellow will train under the mentorship of HAB scientific and programmatic staff to:
- Conduct reviews and identify existing gaps and opportunities in the published literature and existing data sources
- Conduct research to increase understanding of the risk and protective factors
- Analyze and synthesize data from multiple sources on organizational policies
- Propose, analyze, publish, and disseminate research including publications and national presentations
- Develop website and communication products

Anticipated Appointment Start Date: 2022. Start date is flexible and will depend on a variety of factors.
Appointment Length: The appointment will initially be for one year, but may be renewed up to five years total upon recommendation of CDC and is contingent on the availability of funds.
Level of Participation: The appointment is full-time.
Participant Stipend: The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.
Citizenship Requirements: This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR) only.
ORISE Information: This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE.

The qualified candidate should have received a master's or doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields, or be currently pursuing one of the degrees with completion by May 31, 2022. Degree must have been received within the past five years.
Training and/or interest in gerontology is preferred.
