Description

The U.S. Army Environmental Command (USAEC) at Fort Huachuca is offering an internship opportunity for master-level participants to gain hands-on experience in U.S. Army environmental compliance. Participants would have the opportunity to enhance their skills by engaging in a wide array of tasks pertaining to environmental compliance, such as, data collection, data management, lab analysis, report writing and document preparation, and inspections.

What will I be doing and why should I apply?

As an ORISE participant and under the guidance of a mentor, you will have the opportunity to participate in field work and inspections, GIS data gathering and compliance duties. Laboratory tasks include helping at the Fort’s Wastewater treatment plant and assisting in daily lab testing requirements.  Document preparation can include draft minor plans and review of memos and other outgoing correspondence. Public outreach opportunities are possible and happen occasionally throughout the year (e.g. public/school tours and presentations, external site meetings, etc.) Training opportunities are provided, at minimum, in OSHA Hazwoper, RCRA, Method 9 Visual opacity, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) safety and identification. Other training opportunities include ATV use, and ArcGIS Army Geospatial Standards. Fort Huachuca cannot guarantee that all of these tasks will be available in the same year, as Army mission and program needs always take precedence.
