Description

The U.S. Army Environmental Command (USAEC) proudly delivers environmental services and solutions in support of the Army's Environmental Program, enabling Army readiness and sustainability. For more than 40 years, USAEC has provided the knowledge, tools, and programs that support ready and resilient Soldiers, installations, and commands by balancing military training with sound environmental practices.

Located in the scenic Hudson River Valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. As a participant you will be stationed within the Environmental Program at US Army Garrison West Point, and be exposed to a broad range of environmental media areas, with research and skill development opportunities made available based on the selected participant's interests and experience.

You will be exposed to a variety of objectives and educational opportunities typically related to the management of installation natural resources. The goal is to provide the optimum environment for sustainment of the military mission, the development of progressive programs for land management, and the maintenance and protection of environmental quality through a wide range of programs.

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will assist in planning, developing and providing technical field assistance for Natural Resource inventories and surveys. Data and information gathered will focus on a variety of natural resource elements including but not limited to, invasive species, forest overstory and regeneration, vernal pools, herpetfauna, small mammals and threatened species.  Research includes conducting regular routine field visits to collect data, assist in the collection and evaluation of data from the installation weather station and much more.
