The Appalachian STEM Academy at Oak Ridge is a one-week, fully funded, hands-on learning experience for Appalachia's middle school students. Hosted by Oak Ridge Associated Universities in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the program is a gateway to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in the Appalachian region. Many participants come from economically distressed counties and gain increased exposure to applied science and STEM education through this experience. Middle school students develop skills in emerging STEM technologies with master teachers. As an entrepreneur, students then identify and analyze relevant community issues within the Appalachian region and develop solutions using STEM technologies. The program culminates in a final group presentation where participants showcase their work.
I certify that I am a U.S. citizen, am willing to follow all program and safety instructions, am able to participate in all program activities for the full program period of either July 6-12 or July 13-19, 2024, currently attend a public, private, charter or homeschool (in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade), or reside, in a designated Appalachian county, and plan to enroll in a public, private, charter or homeschool, or reside, in a designated Appalachian county for the 2024-2025 school year.

Question: What is the deadline for submitting an application?
Answer: Not all opportunities have application deadlines. Some opportunities remain open until they are filled. If an opportunity has an application deadline, then it will be listed in the opportunity details or in the opportunity catalog.
