Appalachian STEM Academy at Oak Ridge - Bridge Program
Each applicant needs to create their own Zintellect account using the applicant's permanent email address. Note: Siblings cannot share a Zintellect account.
A complete application consists of:
- An online application form
- A recommendation submitted by a teacher, school counselor, school administrator, or community member (The application asks for contact information for your recommender. The recommender cannot be a family member.)
*IMPORTANT NOTE: On the question asking about your degree, please enter the following on the indicated questions*
- Education Status - enter "In Progress"
- Degree - enter "High School Diploma/GED"
- Institution - enter your current school name without any abbreviations
- Dates - enter the approximate dates you began and will finish at your current school
- GPA - enter your current GPA
*If you are homeschooled: For any question asking for your school name, please enter "Homeschool" or the name of your homeschool organization or coop.

The Appalachian STEM Academy Bridge Program is a two-week, fully funded, hands-on learning experience for those students who previously completed the ARC/ORAU Middle School Summer Science Academy or the Appalachian STEM Academy Middle School Program. Students who are in 9th or 10th grade (during the 2023-2024 school year) and are not yet old enough to apply for the Appalachian STEM Academy high school program are eligible to apply. The Appalachian STEM Academy Bridge Program is hosted by Oak Ridge Associated Universities in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and builds upon the knowledge the participants gained in the Middle School Program. All participants work with a master teacher, assistant teacher, and other experts to conduct guided group science, math, and computer science technology research projects. The program culminates in a final group presentation where participants showcase their work.
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be a current 9th grader or 10th grader, under the age of 16, and have completed the Appalachian STEM Academy Middle School Program or the ARC/ORAU Middle School Summer Science Academy
- Must reside in or attend a public, private, charter, or homeschool, in a designated Appalachian county (see http://www.arc.gov/counties)
- Must plan to enroll in a public, private, charter, or homeschool in a designated Appalachian county for the 2024-2025 school year, or reside in such designated Appalachian county
- Must be willing to follow all program and safety instructions
- Must be able to participate in all program activities for the full program period, July 6-July 19, 2024
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizen Only
