Description

The carbon and water cycle are intricately coupled and together determine ecosystem productivity. This NASA Post Doctoral Program Research Opportunity Description aims to quantify the coupling of carbon and water across varying temporal and spatial scales for the globe. Combining remote sensing datasets from optical and microwave instruments, these observations will be used to quantify decadal scale processes and to better understand canopy-level controls on ecosystem-atmosphere fluxes. This includes a focus on mechanisms driving carbon and water cycle coupling. Furthermore, the project will evaluate environmental controls on ecosystem productivity across the globe and how climate change may affect these controls. The work will help provide insights into ecosystem modeling, their theoretical basis for plant and ecosystem production, and evaluation of model performance.
