Description

Aerosol emissions impact Earth's climate by modifying the properties of clouds.  This research opportunity seeks to understand the role of cloud condensation nuclei and ice nuclei emissions on the formation of clouds and their effect on climate prediction.  Specifically, it seeks to understand the effect of different representations of aerosol activation of cloud formation on short-term and seasonal-to-decadal climate forecast.  Other tasks include the implementation of aerosol activation parameterizations into NASA models, the development of metrics of the aerosol indirect effect, and the analysis of field campaign and satellite retrievals to search for signal of aerosol-cloud interactions.
