Description

NASA Ames Research Center is looking for a postdoctoral assistant to support the operation of a solar tracking high resolution Fourier Transform Spectrometer located at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center as part of the Total Column Carbon Observing Network. The successful candidate will support daily operations, hardware maintenance, data processing and analysis, as well as develop scientific studies of data from this and other TCCON sites, coupled with satellite and other data sets.

Candidates with interest in carbon cycle science and/or urban emissions and experience in one or more of the following measurement foci are encouraged to apply:

  • greenhouse gas flux measurements and analysis
  • high-resolution infrared spectroscopy, both hardware and data analysis
  • remote sensing of atmospheric trace gases
  • analysis of satellite observations of greenhouse gases

Previous laboratory and/or field experience is required. Experience with a variety of data analysis software packages is advantageous. Development of secondary projects which foster collaborations with other researchers at NASA Ames is also encouraged.

Position Requirements:

  • PhD in the physical sciences, preferably Chemistry, Physics, or Atmospheric Sciences.
  • Experience working with and maintaining analytical instrumentation, preferably FTIR.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team on various projects.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sufficient physical condition to climb a ladder and lift 30 pounds.
  • Travel to NASA Armstrong will be necessary several times per year.
