Solar System Exploration: Dynamics of Planetary Atmospheres
Theoretical investigations of atmospheric dynamics are carried out within the framework of data obtained from the Voyager, Galileo, Cassini and other missions to the giant planets; from current and past orbiters and rovers at Mars; and from space telescope, ground-based and airborne instrumentation. Emphasis is placed on the identification and study of the fundamental dynamic processes in various atmospheres. Advantage is taken of the wide range of relevant atmospheric parameters encountered among the planets to carry out comparative studies. Areas of specific interest include planetary-scale dynamics, wave propagation and associated transport phenomena, and atmospheric thermodynamics and moist convection.
