Description

A multiwavelength and multi-messenger approach to studying Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs) is necessary to understand the physics of the explosions, relativistic jet dynamics, the nature of the progenitors, and to use them as probes of fundamental physics and cosmic chemical evolution. Goddard operates NASA‘s premiere GRB-detecting observatories, Swift and Fermi, and participates in ground-based radio, optical, near-infrared, and very high-energy gamma-ray follow-up observations. We work closely with the gravitational wave and neutrino communities, to obtain a full picture of the GRB phenomenon.

We are also developing future instruments and missions to advance the field using a wide range of platforms including CubeSats, ISS instruments, and a range free-flying missions to advance the field over next decade. Given the broad range of GRB-related topics we explore, we welcome NPP applicants with observational, theoretical, and hardware interests and experiences.
