Data science opportunities with IMPACT
Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) supports the NASA Earth Science Data Systems program. Recognizing that Earth observation data are useful for various applications, the IMPACT seeks to integrate NASA's Earth observation data into the decision-making. In addition, the IMPACT team ensures these data will continue to be used in new ways by monitoring trends across data science and information technology fields in order to more effectively develop new solutions for Earth science data management and dissemination. IMPACT research focuses on the application of novel computational methods and information technology to the acquisition, storage, processing, discovery, interchange, analysis and visualization of Earth Science data and information.
Available NPP opportunities within the MSFC IMPACT group include:
- Development of innovative data science application for information extraction from large data archive
- Assessment of new and disruptive technologies to enhance the efficiency of NASA Earth science data systems
- Development of machine learning techniques to solve complex Earth science problems computing technologies
- Improvement in user experience with NASA data and services to lower barriers of entry for all users to effectively leverage complex scientific datasets
- Development of large-scale data analysis and processing pipelines in cloud computing environment
The prospective applicant should contact Manil Maskey (manil.maskey@nasa.gov) well in advance of developing the proposal to ensure alignment of the idea with opportunity objectives. Please include a Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a brief statement of interest that identifies the primary topic of interest from those listed above. Other related topics will also be considered. The candidate will then be put in touch with the appropriate research mentor who will coordinate with the candidate on the proposal concept.
