The Department of Defense is offering graduate internships or fellowships for current and recently graduated students at the Defense Centers for Public Health - Aberdeen (DCPH-A). The qualified candidate will be currently pursuing or have completed the degree by December 29, 2023.
What will I be doing?
As a Defense Centers of Public Health – Aberdeen (DCPH - A) participant, you will receive hands-on experience with population health analysis of secondary data. You will have an opportunity to showcase your knowledge and skills as you take part in various analytic and writing tasks with various levels of autonomy. The selected participant will be exposed to population-level analysis and modeling of National Survey of Children’s Health data with a focus on comparing differences between military and non-military families in regard to social, behavioral, and physical health indicators of interest. This study closely aligns with Department of Defense strategic priorities and aims to help military leaders better understand the health status of military families in comparison to the civilian population.

What is the anticipated start date?
DCPH-A is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships or fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
What is the appointment length?
This opportunity is a part-time (less than 20 hours per week), 260-hour appointment. The appointment period and hours per week will be negotiated prior to Participant selection and stated in the offer letter to the selected Participant. Factors that will be considered when determining appointment length and hours per week include project need and timeline, funding requirements, and Participant availability.

About ORISE
This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
